A Message From Our Principal - Mrs. Robin Shrum
Dear Sandy Hook Families,
As the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary School, I want to welcome you to our school and to another school year. I am thrilled at the opportunity to get to know you and your children and to work with our dedicated staff.
When talking to my staff about what is really important at the elementary level, we talk a lot about reading and math. Something else we are talking about a lot is the importance of our children being kind and caring. This year we will focus on kindness. What does it mean to be kind? How does it make others feel when you treat them with kindness? As a school we will be reading the “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” I encourage you to talk to your child about kindness and “catch them” being kind to others .
The elementary years are critical times of development for students and families alike. Research shows that parental involvement in a child’s education is very beneficial. These benefits include higher levels of academic achievement and positive attitudes about learning. Because the benefits are so solid, I urge you to take part as much as possible in the life of our school. It does take an entire village to raise a child. Please consider becoming a school volunteer or getting involved in our PTO or Watchdog Program.
We welcome all of you back to another exciting, challenging year. Should you have a concern, please contact your child’s teacher. Ms. Zimmerman, Ms. Sparacio, and I are available to meet with you in person or talk to you over the telephone to discuss any concerns you may have, but it is always best to start with the classroom.
Here's to another great year at Sandy Hook Elementary School!
Robin L. Shrum
